Disability Advocacy Training Network

Fostering Advocacy Across New York State

Everyone deserves the knowledge and skills to speak up for themselves and their communities.

BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO CENTER THE VOICES THAT MATTER MOST

DATC is working to center the voices of self-advocates with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families and caregivers so they can become leaders for change.

Building toward a more Just and Inclusive New York

NYS DATC is more than a training program; It's a movement for systems change, inclusion, and self-determination, centering lived experience.

We strive to equip people with intellectual and developmental disability, families, and allies to advocate effectively and build connections across communities to increase access in all areas of life.

PROGRAM GOALS

What We’re Building

  • A connected community of advocates across NYS who learn from and support each other.

A group of students seated together for a presentation with two in the middle holding up a sign that says "Equity In Education"
  • A more just and inclusive New York where people with intellectual and developmental disability have full access to all areas of life.

Three advocates standing in front of the Nation's Capital in Washington DC
  • A network of informed advocates who can engage with policymakers, because informed voices drive better policy.

Self Advocate holding up a sign on the steps of the Capital that says "All of us are different, none of us are less."

How to get involved

When advocates are equipped with knowledge and connected with one another, they can shape a New York State where people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have full access and inclusion in all areas of life.
